Timor-Leste: Set up mobile clinics
TOUCH International, in partnership with World Vision East Timor (WVET) conducted mobile clinics in the district of Aileu. The medical clinics were much needed to plug the gap in primary healthcare services in the world’s youngest nation. Clinics were conducted in the homes of the local nurses, villagers or former school rooms as most of the medical facilities were destroyed in the civil conflict following the referendum. They were carried out with the assistance of the local nurses and midwives. Besides treating the locals, the teams also carried out nutritional surveillance and immunization programs. A good working relationship was built with the local health workers over the 10 weeks that the teams worked in the villages of Aileu. Looking back, we are glad that we were able to play a small part in helping Timor-Leste on her road to nation building.
